【摘要】:Viscosityisameasureofthefluidityofamaterial.Viscositydataareusefulinthedeterminationoftheeaseofstirring,pumping,dipcoating,orotherflow-relatedpropertiesofpaintsandrelatedfluids.Thistypeofcupisusedtomeasureviscositybecauseitiseasytouse,robust,andmaybeusedintanks,reservoirs,andreactors.Thereareothertypesofapparatusformeasuringviscosityinthelaboratorythatprovidebetterprecisionandbias,includingtheFordviscositycup(TestMethodD1200),andtheBrookfieldviscometer(TestMethodsD2196).Certainhighershearratedevicessuchascone/plateviscometers(TestMethodD4287)providemoreinformationaboutsprayability,rollcoatability,andotherhigh-shearraterelatedpropertiesofcoatings.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofviscosityofpaints,varnishes,lacquers,inks,andrelatedliquidmaterialsbydip-typeviscositycups.Thistestmethodisrecommendedforviscositycontrolworkwithinoneplantorlaboratoryandshouldbeusedtocheckcompliancewithspecificationsonlywhensufficientcontrolshavebeeninstitutedtoensureadequatecomparabilityofresults.1.2ViscositycupsaredesignedfortestingofNewtonianandnear-Newtonianliquids.Ifthetestmaterialisnon-Newtonian,forexample,shear-thinningorthixotropic,anothermethod,suchasTestMethodsD2196,shouldbeused.Undercontrolledconditions,comparisonsoftheviscosityofnon-newtonianmaterialsmaybehelpful,butviscositydeterminationmethodsusingcontrolledshearrateorshearstressarepreferred.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
